I've been to many concerts, and when I say many I mean many; A concert can be defined as great for many reasons, how great is your music, can you engage your public, and if you can't can you transport them to another place by playing your music better than what they can hear from your Cd's. See I'm not trash talking any other concerts I've been to, they are all great and they all each bring something different to the table, but this last Wednesday I saw a concert that top them all off.
Lets start off by the opening band Mom, its nice combo of experimental music along the lines of Octopus project (although I would not put them head to head) which was a great warm up, then lets turn on the heat by making to Videohippos, with a nice combo of great music and videos, remember they are behind the screen.
And now le piece de resistance, Dan Deacon. Now we know his music its amazing, but really his music doesn't sound half as good as if you hear it live, it has the power of transporting you to an imaginary world in which every single person is there are dancing and acting silly. He has said in previews interviews that he had the ability to make everyone in a room dance, and I must admit that I was really skeptic at first; I mean don't get me wrong I was planing to dance and all, but what I Wasn't planing was, waking up next day with a stiff neck. The truth is that for just a minute of talking with him I could tell he didn't care who you where (hipster, emo, indie, punk...) he just wanted to make you have a great time, he wasn't even looking for the attention, hence the fact he wasn't using the stage. What amazed me the most was not only that he was able to make the shyest guy in the room do crazy things, but also that he engage his public, at one point he brought robes and sheets with lyrics in the and he made all of us sing "Wham city", to top it off we had a dance off.
If you get a chance to go and see this shows, do not miss it or you will be a big idiot.
Cheers.
